A Deep Dive into Worker Psychological Well-Being in the Construction Industry: A Systematic Review and Conceptual Framework

The construction industry is stressful and concerns for workers’ psychological well-being (PWB) are on the rise with high prevalence of mental health problems. However, there currently no clear framework or system in mainstream literature to guide management practices such as allocating resources, optimizing work systems, supporting worker well-being. In this study, a state-of-the-art review was conducted PWB constructs associated theoretical perspectives. This theories dimensions aims provide more complete account factors systemic guidance organizations. Drawing three-dimensional taxonomy social science literature, study identified five themes antecedents community: motivational, relational, working environment, personal attributes, cognitive. Findings could contribute both theory development practices. Theoretically, introduced clarity linking different their antecedents. also allows identifying future research avenues expand boundaries existing body knowledge. Practically, offered support management, policy makers, decision makers optimize improve strategies industry.
